TopdogUnderdog's final scene is disturbingly voyeuristic and familiar to the end of Act 1, where Lincoln describes the details of his job. The story I wanted to highlight is about the spectacle of the theatre to enhance the fact that you are watching a show that tells about history by designing the set to look like the Ford’s Theatre–which is now an exhibit–but with an antique newspaper like quality.

Topdog/Underdog

written by Molière

Parlour rooms during the play’s original time period acted as a meeting place for salons, or social gatherings of women, to discuss societal sentiments. America during the 1920s closely resembles France during the 1660. The themes in this show that I chose to highlight are concealment, deception, and the influence and power of women in history and society. To convey these concepts, I set the show in a 1920’s gilded mansion parlour room.

Tartuffe

written by Robert O'Hara

The play discusses the racial differences in how white versus black family dynamics work. Splitting the audience on a transverse stage will highlight this difference and force them to look at each other while they are watching the show.
